Arizona RID
presents
What is the point and how do I convey it? Analyzing the message to ensure a clear interpretation.
Often interpreters are concerned about “getting the message out” and end up processing at the lexical level to get all of the content conveyed. However, the intent of the speaker/signer is sometimes not conveyed or the message is delivered in a way that the receiver understands the words, but isn’t sure of the point. As interpreters, we know when this is happening, but we don’t know how to change it. This workshop will focus on analyzing signed/spoken messages for the intent, content and meaning. Techniques will be shared for how to convey an accurate and “clear” message.
This workshop is limited to 30 participants.
You must attend both sessions to get full CEU’s.
Presented by Cindy Farnham, MA, Master Mentor, Certified (RID, NAD, EIPA), is a freelance interpreter, mentor and trainer. She has her Master’s in Education and has been formally mentoring for 10 years. Cindy has a private mentoring practice assisting interpreters pursuing certification and training other interpreters to become professional mentors. She serves as the Vice President of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers.
